Carlos (Larry) Lisbey Profile

Carlos Lisbey

Legendary Larry

I hail from Belize City, my birthplace, where my journey into the world of billiards commenced at the age of 16 during my high school years. A swift learner, I quickly embraced the game, earning the moniker of a "pool shark" due to the dedication I poured into mastering billiards. In my neighborhood, boasting three iconic pool rooms—Hardy's Play House, Triangle Bar, and Mikes Club—I became a local sensation, celebrated for both my talent and unwavering passion for the game.

“Most people give up just when they’re about to achieve success.”

My prowess extended beyond pocket billiards, as by the age of 20, I emerged as one of Belize City's premier "straight rail" carom players at Mikes Club. Drafted by Otto Catouse, the owner of Catts Place, I joined a team of distinguished billiards figures to compete in Belize Nationals, clinching two national titles during my five-year tenure. This period also saw me honored as "Belize's Best Pool Player" by Mayor Jose Coye.

Transitioning to a team led by Mike Estephan, the owner of Advance Advertising, alongside the formidable Manuel Ramos, we secured one national championship in our five-year collaboration. Subsequently, I joined forces with Estella, the esteemed bar owner of Elements Night Club, contributing to another national championship.

My most triumphant chapter unfolded when Nelson Mejia, a respected bar owner, drafted me into his team. With this alliance, I clinched three consecutive national titles and earned the title of Most Valuable Player (MVP) thrice in a row. Reflecting on my journey, I've not only garnered success in numerous local tournaments, exceeding my initial goal of winning one tournament annually but have also made a mark internationally.

A pivotal moment arrived when I fulfilled my dream of representing Belize on the international stage at the Pan American Championships in Managua, Nicaragua. Though my performance may not have been at its peak, the experience stands as the crowning achievement in my lifelong billiards career.
